The DRG&SP was a freelanced design set in the transition era with a mix of steam and diesel locomotives built with domino-style benchwork originally intended to be a scenic railroad. The track plan was later tweaked to allow both scenic running and operations.
The backdrop was custom-painted by a local artist and Rod built a number of craftsman-type structures. Most of the layout had scenery installed. Most recently, the engine terminal was rebuilt and Rod and Dick Sowash created a downtown business area for the city of El Paso. The track is code 100 and was powered by Digitrax DCC.
