What goes in and what you get out of Model Railroading
What do you want in a hobby? Intellectual stimulation? Creative release? Social Interaction? Accomplishment? Build Something?
All of these things are reasons that your fellow modelers enjoy the hobby. And what goes in? Well, that’s the fun part. You can get into as much detail or as little as you wish. You can get into the history of what you are modeling, or not. You can build a complex layout and enjoy having other modelers over for operating sessions that will challenge the mind. Or you can build a simple layout and visit other modelers if you want to get into operations. You can become a fine scale modeler and create exact scale duplicates of prototype engines, rolling stock, structures and scenes. Or you can model with out-of-the-box components and get up and running in the hobby with little effort.
In short, this is a flexible hobby that you can enjoy in many different ways without spending a lot of effort to get started.
