Retired from being a political cartoonist at the Austin American-Stateman, Ben now devotes his time
to being a conductor on the Austin Steam Train,
running a specialty printing operation on his 1902 printing press, and
operating his HOn3 Santa Fe and San Juan Railroad. The layout models the old Chili Line in New Mexico and features
an all-Blackstone fleet of steam power and rolling stock with plenty of highly detailed scenery. The layout wraps
around the walls of an outbuilding that he built specially for his vintage printing equipment and the trains.
