Cen-Tex Division NMRA Meet
Lone Star Region National Model Railroad Association

We Hope You Had a Great Time!

We hope you enjoyed our first ever Cen-Tex Division NMRA Meet. Photos from the Meet are online! Check out the activities at the Church and tour and operating session photos!

On a personal note, I am very thankful for the folks who worked on the committee and made the Meet possible: Mike Barrett, Terry Nathan, Jack Merkel, Phil Sharpnack, Riley Triggs, and George Zapalac. Bill Dryden and Harry Petheram helped with the car repair table, Carol Merkel ran the contest check-in, and Steve Jackobs helped with registration. (I'm sure I'm forgetting someone...please forgive me!)

I'd also like to thank the gracious layout owners who opened their homes on the tour and for operating sessions, as well as the team of judges who helped with the contest. And last, but not least, much thanks to the folks who presented our five outstanding clinics: Chuck Lind and Loren Neufeld, Duane Richardson, Tom Pearson (all of which are from outside the area), Jack Merkel and Riley Triggs. Thanks, everyone! -Peter

We will be having a Meet in Fall 2016! It will probably be in October. Watch for updates, we should know the exact date and location soon.

We had activies for everyone:

  • Five clinics on topics including Scenery, Weathering, DCC, Signals and Industries. One of our clinics was an NMRA EduTrain clinic by Mike Burgett.
  • Opportunities to learn the basics of model railroading, find out about the NMRA achievement program, ask the experts, and get help with problems you've run into. Several people brought locomotives and cars for tune-ups and help with DCC.
  • Social time with fellow model railroaders to continue building friendships that last a lifetime. We even made a new friend from Norway, Einar Næss Jensen! He even shared a link to his home club layout!
  • A good contest and exhibition. Start working on your entries for next year!
  • A tour including dozens of local model railroad layouts - some large nationally-known and some smaller but just as fun - plus a great TTrak layout at the Meet!
  • Several layouts hosted operating sessions on Friday and Sunday as well.

The contest was simplified (compared to regional conventions); categories included: Locomotives and Rolling Stock, Scenery and Structures (including full scenes and modules), and Photography (model or prototype, not significantly edited). We used the rules and judging forms published by the LSR.

Operating Sessions were held the day before and after the meet by Pete Guy, Chuck Ellis, Jack Merkel and Riley Triggs.

If you have any questions or suggestions for next year's meet please send us an email!
